Post-Tan Care
Spray Tan Aftercare Guide
Your tan is just the beginning. Follow these aftercare steps to keep your glow looking flawless for as long as possible.
The First 24 Hours Are Critical
- 1
Stay Dry
Avoid water, sweat, and moisture for at least 8–12 hours after your tan (or as directed by your technician based on the solution used). This includes showers, rain, and sweating.
- 2
Wear Loose, Dark Clothing
Tight clothing can rub against the developing solution and cause streaking or uneven color. Stick to loose, dark fabrics for the first day.
- 3
Skip the Gym
Avoid intense workouts for at least 24 hours. Sweat during the development phase can cause streaking and uneven fading.
- 4
No Swimming or Hot Tubs
Chlorine and salt water will strip your tan. Wait at least 24–48 hours before swimming.
- 5
Sleep Smart
If your tan is still developing overnight, wear loose dark pajamas and consider putting a dark towel over your pillow to protect your bedding.
How to Make Your Tan Last Longer
Moisturize Daily
Hydrated skin holds color longer. Apply a gentle, oil-free moisturizer every day, focusing on dry areas like knees, elbows, and ankles.
Avoid Long Hot Showers
Hot water and steam accelerate fading. Opt for lukewarm showers and pat dry instead of rubbing.
Skip Exfoliating Products
Avoid scrubs, loofahs, and exfoliating cleansers while your tan is active — they'll remove color faster.
Use Tan-Safe Products
Avoid products with AHAs, BHAs, retinol, or high alcohol content — these break down the tan faster.
Pat, Don't Rub
When drying off after a shower, gently pat your skin dry with a towel instead of rubbing.
What to Avoid After Your Tan
Exfoliating Scrubs
Will strip color unevenly and cause patchy fading.
Oil-Based Products
Body oils and oil-based cleansers break down the tan rapidly.
Long Baths & Hot Tubs
Prolonged soaking accelerates fading significantly.
Tight Clothing & Underwire
Can rub color off in specific areas, creating uneven patches.
Chlorine & Salt Water
Both strip tan color quickly — wait 48 hours before swimming.
Waxing or Shaving
Shaving removes a layer of skin and will fade your tan faster. Use a razor gently if needed.
